David Arthur Jarratt, Ret., Lt Col (Army) was born in Green Castle, Indiana on 23 Sept 1936. The son of Howard and Ingebord (Larsen) Jarratt. He moved to Newton in 1949 with his mother and sister. Graduating from Newton High School in 1954 with honors, David played the starring role in the musical, Student Prince. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN with honors as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. During his service in the air force in Iceland in 1962, he married Karolyn Czyz and had three amazing daughters. Earning a Master's Degree in Music with highest honors from SMU, he continued his career working with Boris Goldofsky at Tanglewood, The Robert Shaw Chorale, performances at the White House, and musical comedies and opera, both on and off Broadway. Intertwining two careers, he began instructing pilots. He flew an impressive array of jets, planes, and helicopters; he was also a green beret, airborne, and did search and rescue in Iceland and on the Gulf of Mexico during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a proud member of the Screen Actor's Guild, a competitive marksman, and he wrote and published two books. He is survived by his wife, June Lion-Jarratt; his daughter Justine Jarratt Chalman and her husband Keith and their three children, Ryan, Blake and McKenna; Alicia Jarratt Wiggam and her husband Gib; and Faith Jarratt Rouse and her husband Scott and their two children Jarratt and Maggie. In addition, he leaves his step-daughter Stacey Lion, her partner Rich Pero and her children, Sarah, Annie and Henri; his step-daughter Elizabeth Mumford and her daughters Elaine and Alexis. David also leaves his sister Karen Marie Jarratt Cracas and her husband Thomas and their three children Tod, Scott, and Kenneth; and David's half sisters: Kristin Jarratt and Heidi Rampazzi. He has lived happily in Newton for the last 20 years with his wife and true soul mate, June Lion-Jarratt. A memorial service will be held at the Second Church in Newton, UCC, 61 Highland St., West Newton on Saturday, March 24 at 3:00 pm.
