Obituary for Vito Soprano
SOPRANO, Vito L. Of West Newton, April 21, 2017. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Helene (Matthews), son, Gary and wife Deborah, daughter, Deborah (Galvin) and husband Richard, four granddaughters: Lauren, Lindsay, Natalie and her husband Taylor, and Maria, and two great grandsons, Ryker and Gunner. Commissioned Warrant Officer Vito L. Soprano USMCR RET (W. Newton, Disabled War Veteran Chapter 45, Waltham. Veteran WWII and Korean War). Served as Disbursing Officer Mediterranean Cruise 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, 1953 Graduate of Waltham High School and attended Prep School Colburn Classical Institute, Waterville, Maine. Played local semi-pro baseball and football in the late thirties and was an amateur boxer and avid golfer. Originated and directed the Abramo Memorial Invitational Golf Tournament for 20 years at Wayland Golf Club. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), WEST NEWTON, Monday, April 24 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bernard's Church, West Newton, at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Sunday from 2:00-5:00 PM. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
