Obituary for Arthur Robert "Bobby" McCarthy III

Arthur Robert McCarthy III (Bobby McCarthy), 82, of West Newton, MA, passed away on March 28th 2024.

“Bobby Mac” was born on December 21st, 1941 to Clare and Arthur McCarthy Jr. in Newton, MA. Bobby graduated from Newton High School in 1960 and went on to study at Chamberlayne Junior College in Boston, MA. He met the love of his life, Diane (Valente) McCarthy in 1963 at a movie theater for their first date where Billy Budd was showing. Bobby and Diane raised two children, Arthur Robert McCarthy IV (Rob) and Nicole McCarthy. Bobby and Diane spent 61 years together full of love and laughter.

Throughout his wonderful life, Bobby charmed many with his one-of-a-kind smile and his natural ability to make friends with everyone, always ensuring that he was the greatest husband, father, and grandfather (papa) he could be. Each summer he vacationed at his favorite place in the world, Crystal Lake in Harrison, ME. You could always find him sprawled out in his lounge chair overlooking the lake soaking in the sun and the fresh air. He would relish it by sipping his Jameson and snacking on his Cheez-Its with family and friends, and he would always say, "it doesn’t get any better than this." Bobby’s family was his passion, and he will forever be remembered for the beautiful life he lived, the positive example he set for his children and grandchildren, and the love he radiated for all.

Predeceased by his parents Clare and Arthur McCarthy Jr.; Father-in-law the late Joseph Valente and his mother-in-law Connie Valente.

Bobby is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Diane McCarthy; his loving son Arthur (Rob) and his wife Jill; his two wonderful grandsons Shane and Braydon McCarthy; and his cherished daughter Nicole and her partner Dan.
