Obituary for Richard L. Potter

Richard L Potter, born and raised in Wellesley MA passed away on January 24, 2024 surrounded by his family. Son of the late Charles and Nany Potter (Perani) and beloved husband of his high School sweetheart Karin Potter (Archibald). Rick and Karin enjoyed a loving marriage of 51 years and are the proud parents of Richard L Potter II of Hawaii and Heather Kimball and fiancé James Fowler both of Medway. Rick is also survived by his loving grandson John James Kimball II.

Rick spent his life dedicated to serving his country and his local community. He grew up in Wellesley and began working for the town in 1968 in the Department of Public Works. He enlisted in the United States Army and went to Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, Rick attended the N.E School of Photography and then was appointed to the Wellesley Special Police Department in 1974, While continuing to work and live in Wellesley. Rick was appointed as a full-time police officer on the Wellesley Police Department in 1977. In the latter part of his career Rick was the president of the Wellesley Patrolman’s Association and was then elected to service as a Regional Vice President and area representative for the Massachusetts Coalition of Police. He retired in 2012 after 38 years of police service and 44 years of service with the town.

Rick loved dogs and always carried puppy cookies in his cruiser. He was a family man and adored his grandson. He loved to garden, enjoy the beach, and complete DYI projects at home and for his extended family. He was proud to serve his community where he grew up and lived most of his life. Rick and his family moved to Medway where he volunteered on the Capitalization Committee and continued with community service. Throughout his life at work and at home Rick enjoyed practical jokes and fun company.

Services for Richard L Potter will be at the Henry J Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley MA. Visiting hours will be held from 3-6PM Tuesday January 30, 2024. Concluding with remembrance and Military Flag Presentation.
