Christine (Pike) Monroe, loving grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 60 years old.
Christine adored her puppies and was a talented and accomplished figure skater, winning several national medals in synchronized skating. She dreamed of opening a bakery and loved to serve home made pies, cookies and bread to anyone in her orbit. Though she had many passions, none brought her more joy than spending time with her children, Katie and Nick, and her eight grandchildren, Charlie, Caleb, Lola, Maggie, Luca, Juliet, Max and Zoe.
Christine was born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada. She often referred to her parents home in Witless Bay, where she returned for two weeks every summer, as her “happy place”. She moved to the Greater Boston area in her 30’s with her young family and built a home away from home for the next three decades.
She taught her children and everyone in her life about hard work. She started her career working multiple jobs at Logan Airport so she could return “home” to Newfoundland regularly. After Logan, Christine became a loyal employee of Karas and Karas in Dorchester, MA for 20 years. Many of her colleagues became her family in Boston. After watching her kids graduate from college, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of her own and completed her bachelors degree. She worked hard towards this goal while working full time at Karas and teaching figure skating in the evenings.
Christine loved to ride motorcycles and be free. She deeply cared for others and was a genuine, loyal friend too many. She was a natural athlete and a patient teacher. She taught her kids and grandkids to skate, ski, ride bikes and swim. She succeeded in passing on her passions for being active and physical fitness and they will remember their adventures with her forever.
Christine’s life was cut short by a terrible disease. She is survived by seven of her grandchildren, her children, Katie Enista and Nick Monroe, her parents, Ron and Dolores Pike, her siblings, Wynne Ann Vardy, Damian, Dominic and Robbie Pike, daughter in law Cody Monroe, son in law Duncan Enista, brother and sister in laws, Nelson Vardy and Roxann Pike, and six nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Newton Cemetery Chapel at 1 PM followed by an open house at the Enista residence in Wellesley. In Christine’s memory please consider donating to pancreatic cancer research.
