Nicolas D. Garay, devoted husband of Rosa Garay and longtime resident of West Newton MA has passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Born in Catamarca, Argentina on October 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Andres Fuenzalida and Carmen Garay. Nicolas exemplified what it was to be a kind, and thoughtful human being every day throughout his 89 years.

Thanks to his determination, fearlessness, and sacrifice, Nicolas Garay brought his wife and young children to the MA area in 1972. Beyond being the patriarch of the family, he led and managed several businesses and had a passion for carpentry and his Argentine culture.

In addition to Rosa, his beloved wife of almost 62 years, he will be lovingly remembered by his family including children Jesus Garay (Carla), Alba Alvarez-Cote (Jim), and Raquel Williams (Dave). His grandchildren: Andrea Ruiz (Erick), Marcela Jacobson (Stephen), Adrian Garay (Pari), Gerardo Fernandez, Martin Fernandez, Mariela Fernandez, Lucas Fernandez, Nicolas Fernandez, Gabriel Garay, Ariana Garay, Samara Williams, Kaiya Williams, Catalina Williams, Diane Van Gelder (Jeremy), Matthew Cote (Rebecca), Hillary Cote Schatzel (Erick), Martha Erdeck. His great-grandchildren: Patricia McConnell, Seajae Gaskill, Maximilliano Fernandez, Shane Gaskill, Isabella Rose Mascroft, Mackenzie Cote, Maleigha Cote, Jebby Van Gelder, Rosita Garay, Mark Jacobson, Victoria Ruiz, Eva Jacobson, and Carlitos Garay.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Burke and Blackington Funeral Home (1479 Washington St, Newton, MA 02465), alternatively Saturday Morning 10:00 -10:30 am. A Mass will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 11:00 am (573 Washington St, Newton, MA 02458). Followed by a burial at the Newton Cemetery (791 Walnut, Newton Centre, MA 02459)
