George Eddy Withington, age 86, of Newton, died January 29, 2023, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
in Boston.

He was born on September 2, 1936, to Robert Preston Withington and Elizabeth Eddy Withington in
Newton, MA.

George attended Nichols College, graduating with a B.B.A., and in 1958 joined the Army, where he was a
member of C Battery, 1 st Howitzer Battalion, 83 rd Artillery Regiment, serving two years and earning a
Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged.

He worked in sales and customer service for many years at London Harness before finally retiring from
the John Hancock Company after seven years of service.

He was passionate about politics and was a long-time member of the Newton Republican City
Committee and the Ward 3 Committee. He ran for Massachusetts State Representative and was a
recipient of the Newton Republican of the Year award. He also enjoyed spending time outside skiing,
biking, playing tennis, and walking. He was a staunch Red Sox fan and, being a good son of New England,
could often be found enjoying a lobster or bowl of clam chowder.

George is survived by his nephews, Robert Withington III and William Withington. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Robert Withington Jr., numerous cousins, many dear friends, and his beloved dog, Judy.

A graveside service will be held March 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Newton Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne
Earl officiating. A memorial reception will follow at the Second Church in Newton at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Second Church in Newton so it may
continue the good works George supported in life.
