Jose Alberto Menoyo passed away suddenly on January 2, 2023. Though he slipped away from this earth quickly and quietly, his passionate, bold, and loving spirit remains with us.
Jose, a native of Puerto Rico, completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Hahnemann University and Medical College of Pennsylvania. During medical training, he met his lifelong partner and husband, Dr. Eric Goldberg. After briefly working in clinical nephrology, Jose went on to exercise his ingenuity and clinical expertise in the pharmaceutical industry. He had over 25 years of experience in medicine affairs, drug development, and regulatory leadership across large and small publicly traded biopharmaceutical companies. He was most recently the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Shield Therapeutics PLC.
Whether at the boardroom table or a dinner table with good friends and family, Jose was a beloved and valued presence, always engaging and energizing. Jose (aka Papi, Jefe, Tio) filled the room with his deep voice and desire to connect with those around him.
Jose was the devoted husband, partner and best friend of 30 years of Dr. Eric Goldberg. Together they built a beautiful life, the center of which is their miracle daughter Alexa Paris Menoyo. Becoming a parent was Jose’s lifelong dream. He was Alexa’s staunchest supporter, biggest cheerleader and greatest protector. Jose put Eric and Alexa above all else, and every decision he made put them first.
Jose, Eric and Alexa had just returned from a magical trip to Puerto Rico to visit his beloved family. He leaves behind his mother Belen, stepfather Tonio, sister Priscilla, niece Priscilla and nephew Hector.
Jose cherished and adored what he called his chosen family and took Eric’s family as his own. He leaves behind his mother-in-law Leslie Goldberg, brothers and sisters-in-law Neil and Tracy Goldberg and Evan Goldberg and Torre
Morgan, niece Talia and nephews Ryan, Cameron and Benjamin.
Jose loved travel, fitness and fashion. He most cherished their annual winter getaways to St. Barts with devoted and long-time best friends Ralph Scala and Craig Hazenfield. Jose was always the best-dressed person in the room. He was an incredible dancer, party starter and conversationalist. He embraced all that life had to offer and took full advantage of new experiences and opportunities.
A private service is planned. Should you wish, donations can be made to
PRxPR, an organization committed to helping communities in Puerto Rico, or to the charity of your choice.
