Obituary for James P. "Jim" McDonough

James P. “Jim” McDonough, 72, passed away on November 22 nd surrounded by his family after a brave fight with lymphoma. Son of the late Ed and Bertha McDonough, he is survived by his loving wife Lynne, daughter Kristin (Peter) and son Brian (Kaitlyn). Family was the most important thing to Jim, and he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Olivia, Tommy and Birdie who brought so much joy to his life.

Jim worked at Abington Savings Bank for 27 years where he became the President & CEO. Always proud of having grown up in Abington, he remained involved in various community activities throughout the years. Eager to use his financial expertise in an area that he was passionate about, he served as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Boston for 6 years. He later led Envision Bank as the President & CEO, retiring in 2020. Stemming from his early years as a teacher and coach, he particularly enjoyed mentoring individuals, building a strong culture and giving back to the local community. He made charity a focus in each role he held with particular support for Cardinal Cushing School, Mass Fallen Heroes and Catholic Charities.

Jim thoroughly enjoyed his life and loved to laugh. His favorite times were spent surrounded by family and his many friends. In retirement, if he wasn’t playing soccer and eating Milkyway ice cream with his grandchildren, he could be found golfing or gardening.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 30th from 4-7pm at St. John the Evangelist
Parish, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, December 1st at 10am at St. John the Evangelist.

Donations in Jim’s name may be made to Mass Fallen Heroes and Catholic Charities.
