Obituary for Edward Thomas Lynch "Ted" McCarthy

Edward Thomas Lynch McCarthy "Ted" Ted, 52, passed away from complications of a chronic illness on February 20, 2022, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the cherished son of Richard F. McCarthy and the late Edwina (Lynch) McCarthy of Wellesley.

Born in Brighton, MA, on January 12, 1970, he was a graduate of Wellesley High School and Tulane University. In high school, Ted fell in love with reading, his tastes ranging from Hemingway to Dickens to Hunter S. Thompson. Long before the Internet, he enjoyed hanging out on computer bulletin boards where he made many friends who shared his love of music and literature. After college, Ted moved to Baltimore, where he began his career in the tech industry and met Laura Kerris. Together, they enjoyed life in the Fell's Point neighborhood and were active members of St. Leo the Great Catholic church. Ted was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His life focused on caring for those around him whether good friends or homeless strangers. Ted loved people, and they loved him.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his beloved Laura; his siblings, Sheila, Jennifer (Joon Ho Lee) and Richard F. McCarthy, Jr. He is also survived by his nieces, Niambh and Maisie Lee; and his aunts and uncles, Charles McCarthy, Mary Jane Lukas, Dianne and Bob McCarthy, and Patricia and George Brown; as well as many cousins. Ted also leaves behind Laura's son, Andrew, and his children, Elora, Violet, Faolan and Arya Kerris, who called him Papa Ted.
