Obituary for Jean Goganian (McKeever)

Goganian, Jean Muriel (McKeever), of Sherborn, formerly of Wellesley, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the age of 96.

Born in Boston to the late John and Muriel (Rich) McKeever, Jean was a graduate of Watertown High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Radcliffe College. She was a long-time second grade teacher at the Park School in Brookline, and taught computer courses before many of us had the slightest clue how to use them.

Beloved wife of the late Richard D. Goganian and cherished mother of Susan J. Goganian of Dorchester, Roberta M. Goganian and her husband E. Macey Russell of Newton, Amy E. Goganian and her husband Russell X. Pollock of Sherborn and David H. Goganian and his wife Laetitia B. Gogan of Sherborn. Doting grandmother to Derek Russell and his wife, Arielle Abovich, Sam Russell, Adam and Lauren Pollock and Alicia, Olivia and Marielle Goganian. Dear Sister of the late John H. “Jack” McKeever of Texas, the late Judith Cannon of Eastham and the late James (“Jimmy”) McKeever of Watertown. Beloved aunt to the McKeever and Cannon nieces and nephews.

Jean was an Irish beauty, with long dark hair and sparkling blue eyes. She was the best listener you can imagine, laughed a lot and saw beauty everywhere and in everyone. Jean had a way with words, and those friends and family lucky enough to receive a handwritten note or email from her always remarked on her spare and poignant prose. She had an incredible mind —she did the New York Times Saturday crossword puzzle in pen and read about the theory of relativity in her spare time. Jean never stopped growing as a person, was always open to new ideas and politically aware to the end. In her last hours, her children assured her that Donald Trump was going to go down to help put her at ease. Above all, she was a doting mother and grandmother whose loving, radiant smile brought incredible joy to her loved ones.

The family wishes to thank Good Shepherd Hospice and the caregivers of Senior Bridge.
