Obituary for Mark P. DeSouza

Mark P. DeSouza of Newburyport, formerly of Bedford and Newton, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 at the age of 65.

Mark attended Newton public schools and was a National Merit Scholar. He graduated from Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and went on to a distinguished career with the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 2017. Mark was an avid hiker, runner, mountain biker, and golfer and he enjoyed playing softball and hockey for many years. He was also a fan and supporter of all sports, especially all the local Boston teams. Above all, Mark was a passionate downhill skier and was a regular on the slopes of Wildcat Mountain. He proposed to his wife Nancy of 25 years, also an ardent skier, popping the question and surprising her on a ride up the Wildcat Gondola. Mark had countless friends and was loved by many. He will be missed by all.

Beloved husband of Nancy (Serino) and loving son of Mary Lou (Perry) and the late Lewis DeSouza. Dear brother of Nick DeSouza and his wife Karen, Rick DeSouza and his wife Celeste, John DeSouza, Diane Scurio, Bob DeSouza and Mimi DeSouza and her wife Kimberly. Also survived by his sister-in-law Sheila Greally and her husband Joe, and brother-in-law Jack Serino and his wife Sue; his nieces Kara, Missy, Kitty and Michelle and nephew Joe and his wife Paige, as well as many dear friends.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 16th at 10AM in the lower chapel of St. Bernard Parish, 1523 Washington St. West Newton. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 15th from 4-7PM in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St. West Newton.
