Obituary for Donald W. Humphrey

Donald Humphrey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the age of 97.

He was born in New York City in 1923, the son of the late Harvey and Anna Humphrey. His parents moved Donald and his brothers Harvey and Lawrence to Rome, New York, and then to Yonkers, New York.

Donald, the first in his family to attend college, completed his first semester at Clarkson University before being drafted into the Army (Air Force) during World War II. He served as a Sergeant in the 24th Stat Con Unit and was stationed in the United States, India, and China.

After the war, Donald returned to Clarkson where he received his bachelor’s degree. He then went to work for the General Electric Corporation in Pittsfield, MA – the start of a 35 year career in financial management with GE.

In 1951, he married Marjorie Hoctor. They moved to Glens Falls, New York. They were married for 55 years until she passed away in 2006. Don was an avid golfer, a member of the Glens Falls Country Club, and a voracious reader.

Donald later moved to Newton, MA. He was a longtime New York Giants and Yankees fan, and took great pleasure in the Giants 2007 and 2011 Super Bowl victories.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Richard), Stacy, and Abby; grandchildren, AJ, Mary, Sarah, William, and Scott; great grandchildren, Nolan and Charlotte; brother, Lawrence (Pauline); and sister-in-law Mary. Donald’s brother Harvey predeceased him in 2021.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30th at St. John’s Church, Wellesley Hills, MA. Burial will take place at Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield, MA.
