Obituary for Gerald E. Butterworth

Gerald E. Butterworth of Newton and Wellesley, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021. Gerry was born in Boston and raised in Auburndale, a village of Newton.

Father of Susan Butterworth Averill (Jim), Carolyn Butterworth, John Butterworth (Erin), Andrea Butterworth Hunter (Eddie) and loving Grandfather of Madeline, Timothy, Charlotte, Matthew, Grace, Jack, Ned, Stella, Lila, Fiona and loving friend and partner to Sandra Harajovic.

Gerry was a graduate of Newton High School where he Captained the ice hockey team and for the locals “The All-Cove Team”. He was a proud graduate of Boston College, a Double Eagle. He also had homes in Falmouth, MA and Juno Beach, FL.

His passion in life was driven by family, friends, and work, and in that order. He was a loving Father and Grandfather, a loyal friend and his work ethic was second to none.

There will be a void in Auburndale Square for years to come, and for many of us he was the Mayor of Auburndale.

He had a passion and mind for real estate and built his career and life around it. He liked people for who they were not for what they had, and he surrounded himself with these people.

He taught us all a great deal about loyalty, trust, hard work and giving back. The pillars of a friendship and good life. He always had a hand for someone in need and never wanted the recognition. As a matter of fact, if you thanked him, he would most likely say, “stop being a jerk.”

Visiting Hours will be held at Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills, MA on Monday, November 22nd from 3PM-7PM and a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd at Noon at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd, Wellesley, MA.
