Obituary for George Henry Kelley Jr.
George Henry Kelley, Jr., devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, of Hull, formerly of Wellesley Hills, passed away Thursday August 12, 2021 at the age of 92.
George was born in Boston to the late George H and the late Sadie (Kelly) Kelley and raised in Wellesley Hills. In 1946 at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army at the end of WWII, serving in Korea as a member of the Army of Occupation. Upon his return to the US, he completed high school graduating from Cheshire Academy, Cheshire, CT. He was recalled to active service in 1950, serving in Korea during the Korean War through 1951. A member of the Corps of Cadets, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from The Citadel, Charleston, SC, in 1955. George earned a commission in the army, retiring as a Major from the Army Reserve in 1975. After active army service, he worked as a Bank Examiner for the FDIC, retiring in 1990.
George was the beloved husband of 15 years to the late Florence Ann (Campbell) Kelley who passed away in 1973. He later married his beloved wife of nearly 47 years, Helen (Dolliver) Kelley and moved to Hull, MA. They loved to travel, taking many cruises to different destinations over the years. George had a great passion for History, particularly, the Civil War and World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Hull and Life Member of the American Legion. Blessed with longevity, a loving family, a phenomenal memory, and an avid sports fan, George counted amongst his blessings as having lived long enough to see his Boston Red Sox end the “Babe Ruth Curse” and win the World Series in 2004.
He is survived by his wife Helen Kelley, daughter Margaret Rose Reborchick (Michael), sisters, Ann Sheeran, Mary J. Lynch, Kathleen Kelley, Susan Kelley (William Roy), Brenda Kelley, Diana Kelley, Pauline Kelley, and Priscilla Kelley (Richard Roberti). Also survived by his granddaughters, Suzana and Liza Reborchick and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Richard Kelley and sister, the late Sally Kelley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 11 o’clock. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
