Mary M. Akins, formerly of Newton passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the age of 90. Born in Boston to the late James P. and Madeline (O’Neil) Akins, she was a graduate of Our Lady Help of Christians School in Newton class of 1947. She went on to work for New England Telephone for over 40 years until her retirement in 1991. In retirement Mary spent 30 years living in West Dennis on the Cape; her favorite place to be. Mary was predeceased by her two brothers James P. Akins Jr., and Charles M. Akins as well as her nephew Thomas J. Akins. She is survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Akins of Exeter, NH, and nephews Richard M. Akins and his wife Ann of Hampton, NH and Charles M. Akins Jr. and his wife Mary Ellen of Medway. Also survived by 6 grandnieces and 2 grandnephews.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 6 at 10:30AM in Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Newton followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.

Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the staff and caregivers at Keystone Assisted Living in Buzzards Bay for the wonderful care they provided for the last three years, as well as the staff of Beacon Hospice.
