Obituary for Rosalie Grace Carter Dixon (Carter)

Dixon, Rosalie Grace (Carter) , long known to family as "Snookie", passed away on November 28, 2018, at the age of 86 years. Rosalie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and lived most of her life in West Newton, MA, with the last 15 years in Angier, North Carolina. Rosalie will be lovingly remembered by her sons Kwame Dixon and Harry Wareham, their wives Dawn Dixon and Dawn Wareham and grandchildren Bryce Dixon, Troi Dixon, Trey Dixon, Lauren Wareham and Marcus Wareham.

She is survived by her husband John Dixon, siblings, Dolores Houston, Leslie Ellen Lewis and William Carter all of West Newton and Geraldine Taylor and Carolyn Carter, both of Abingdon, Maryland. She is predeceased by her parents Oscar Carter Sr. and Sletha Carter, brother Oscar Carter Jr. and Sister Joyce Ricks. Rosalie will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.

Rosalie attended Tufts University, where she graduated with a degree in Education. She received her Master’s in Education from Boston University. Rosalie had a long and impressive professional career in education and has the distinction of being appointed as the first national President of the Head Start Association. Rosalie was an Assistant Principal with the Orhenberger School in Boston and later became an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University’s School of Education before retiring and moving North Carolina.

Rosalie was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and served as both Vice President and President of the South Middlesex County Alumnae Chapter. Rosalie was a dedicated member of Myrtle Baptist Church, serving on the Usher Board, Scholarship committee and the Daughters of Myrtle. While living in Angier, NC she was a member of New Trinity Baptist Church. Rosalie spent her life sacrificing for others and was dedicated to pursuing opportunities that support her faith, family, profession and local community.



A celebration of Rosalie’s life will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Myrtle Baptist Church, 21 Curve Street, West Newton, MA. A viewing will start the service from 9:00 – 10:30 am and the funeral will begin immediately after the viewing at 10:30. Rev. Brandon Crowley will officiate. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton, MA.

A memorial service will be held at New Trinity Baptist Church in Clayton, NC on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:00 am.
