Joellen (Maloney) Toussaint, a longtime resident of Wellesley, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 2, 2018 after a brief illness. Joellen was born on August 31, 1940 in Newton, MA to Joseph and Virginia (Stevens) Maloney. She grew up in Bedford MA. She was a graduate of Concord Academy in 1958, attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY and was a Graduate of Boston University in 1964. Joellen, a longtime resident of Wellesley who believed in the power of community service was a past President of The League of Women Voters, a board member on the Wellesley Council on Aging, served as a lector at St. John the Evangelist Church, an anchor of the Wellesley Cable News program since the channels inception, a member of The Wellesley Club, the Democratic Town Committee and a Wellesley Town Meeting member since 1977. Joellen, an avid and passionate advocate in the importance of reading enjoyed 15 years at the Bookstall in Wellesley and the past 27 years at the Wellesley Free Library.
Joellen was preceded in death by her father Joseph, her mother Virginia, her brother Stephen, her husband Joseph, and son Stephen. Her willful spirit is carried on by her dear sister Virginia L. Maloney of Merrimack, NH, her children, son Joseph P. Toussaint of Roseville, MN, daughters Shawna H. Toussaint of Belmont, MA and Erin (Toussaint) Malloy of Grafton, MA, her grandchildren Benjamin, Hollis, Kathryn, John, Hayden and Patrick. Numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends also survive her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, November 8, at 10:00AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Road, Wellesley Hills followed by internment in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, November 7 from 4-8 PM at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley.
