Obituary for Catherine L. Leacu

Catherine L. Leacu
Leacu, Catherine Louise (Doherty) died on June 14, 2018. Catherine was born on October 1, 1921, the third child of Delia Scanlon Doherty and James Doherty of Everett, MA. Catherine attended Boston Teachers College. She is predeceased by her husband and love of her life Arthur Michael Leacu of Natick, to whom she was married 58 years. She was pre-deceased by her brother Francis and sisters, Margaret Klagge and Florence McDonough. Residing in Holliston, she moved to Newton, Ma in 1955. She is survived by her eight (8) children, Jeanne Waters (Rev. Richards) of Northfield, MN, Irene Dougherty (Patrick) of Wilmington, DE., Brian of Newton, Barbara Holmes of West Roxbury, Michael (Wendy) of Wayland, Marie Crossley (Jim) of Wrentham, Therese Leacu of Foxboro, and Christopher (Ariel) of Taipei, Taiwan.
Catherine was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. She loved her house in Buttermilk Bay, and relaxing on the beaches of the Cape. Catherine was an avid reader, poet and gardner. She enjoyed telling stories of her youth including a chance meeting with Babe Ruth. During World War II, she worked at a Rexall Drug Store in Boston, where she met Arthur. During the war she worked for Stone and Webster before raising her family. She enjoyed her family and many friends, and she especially loved her 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. She entered the German Center Nursing Home in West Roxbury for Alzheimers in 2002. The family profoundly thanks the staff at the Home for their long and loving care.
A viewing is scheduled on Friday, June 22, 2018, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Burke and Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street, West Newton, MA. 02465.
