Obituary for Martin Jay Kennedy

Martin Jay Kennedy
Martin J. Kennedy, 74, of Newton, MA, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Springfield, MA to Wallace and Barbara Kennedy, he grew up and raised his family in Westfield, MA before relocating to the Boston area. He and his wife Carol built their dream home on Cape Cod where they lived for 17 years, ultimately settling back to the Boston area to be closer to their family. Marty graduated from Westfield High School and embarked and 30 year career with New England Telephone and AT&T. Later, he served in a senior advisory role at an independent IT professional services firm before retiring. Marty's warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him. He was a deeply devoted family man who's love was unconditional and genuine. He was particularly cherished by his grandchildren to whom he was the quintessential grandfather, balancing sage life lessons with an abundance of fun and adventure. Marty is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol, his children Erin Butterworth and her husband John of Newton, MA, Matthew Kennedy of Lynnfield, MA, his sister Cynthia of Phoenix, AZ, brother Christopher of Florence, MA, many nieces and nephews and his grandchildren, Owen, Grace, Jack, Maeve and Ned. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 22nd from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street, West Newton MA 02465. Services and burial will be private.
