Nugent, Retired City of Newton Police Officer Lt. Richard J., of West Newton, December 21, 2015. Beloved husband of Jean J. (Umano). Devoted father of Steven F. and his wife Gina of Winchester, Carol E. Panica and her husband John of Newton, also stepfather of Mary E. Bartlett, Gloria Cyr, Dolores Hannon, John C. Cyr and Elizabeth Cole. Dear brother of Myra Hagerty of Holbrook and the late Ann Nugent, Dolores Friedman, Bill Nugent, Virginia Nugent, John Nugent and Mary Nugent. Loving grandfather of Kevin, Jill, Jett, Zoe and great grandfather of Avery and Austin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.


He will be remembered for having an incredible sense of humor but mostly as a man who spent his life giving back to others through compassion, caring and love. He even started his own Ministry after 41 years of service with the Newton Police, to continue his life-long passion for helping others and spreading the message of Jesus Christ.


Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), West Newton, Monday, December 28 at 9:30AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church 573 Washington St., Newton at 10:30AM. Visiting hours Sunday from 4:00- 8:00 PM. Interment will be held at in the Massachusetts Veteran's Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in Dick's memory to Fr.
