Obituary for William F. "Chief" Quinn

Quinn, Ret. Newton Police Chief William F., "Chief", of Newton, MA, in Windham, NH, November 15, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Anna T. (McHugh) Quinn. Devoted father of Timothy H. Quinn and his wife Sabine of No Hampton, NH, William R. Quinn and his wife Patricia of Falmouth, Loretta Helinski and her husband Mark of Salem, NH. Dear Brother of Katherine Jack of Reading and the late Harold Quinn. Loving grandfather of 8 and great grandfather of 2. Bill was a U. S. Navy Veteran during WWII. He entered police service on November 23, 1952 and was appointed Police Chief on July 2, 1968; retiring in 1992 after completing forty years of service. During his years as Chief he was responsible for many changes and major innovations; his participation in many organizations such as President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the Board of Trustees of the Newton Wellesley Hospital to mention a few. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), West Newton, Saturday, November 22 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours Friday evening from 3:00- 7:00 PM. Interment in the Veteran's National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in his memory to the Newton Police Memorial Association, 1321 Washington St., Newton, MA 02465.
