Obituary for Linda M. Abegglen (Margolis)

Linda M Abegglen, 83, Asian Art Dealer

Linda M Abegglen died at Faulkner Hospital on Tuesday, November 4, after a long battle with several

respiratory conditions. She worked into her into her 70’s in real estate. For many years she ran the

successful gallery, Art/Asia, on Newbury St. bringing the best contemporary Japanese prints and

museum-quality ceramics to Boston. She developed her interest after living in Japan for several years

with her second husband, James C. Abegglen and their daughter, Andrea. This led to her membership on

the Board of Directors of the Japan Society of Boston. She was active in politics on the local and national

level, once acting as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. She was an active member of

the League of Women Voters. She was a longtime resident of Weston Mass. where she maintained a

beautiful home and garden. In her later years she moved to a nearby apartment in Waltham to remain

close to her friends. She loved going to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and summering in Woodshole,

Mass. where she belonged to the Woodshole Yacht Club. She held a Bachelor of Arts degree from

Simmons College (1952). Her training was in editing and public relations. She is survived by her children:

John Weston and his wife, Ann, of Dallas, TX, Peter Fernberger and his wife, Bronwyn Woodhead, and

their three children, Emma, Daphne, and Henry, of New York City, NY, and Andrea Abegglen of Venice, CA.

A ceremony will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery on Saturday, November 8 at 10:30 am. Donations can be

made to the League of Women Voters in her name.
