Life Story for Merton R. Young

Merton, R. Young, 91, of Whitney Place, Natick formerly of Wellesley, passed away peacefully on April 15th, surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Hazel. He is survived by his children, Claudia Young Reents and her husband Ron of Westborough, Peter and his wife Deborah Dutton of Westwood, Andrew and his wife Laura Fraser of La Jolla, CA and Maura and her husband Dr. Will North of Fremont, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ry Young Reents, Ashley and Eric Young, Molly and Stella Young and Liam and Declan Young North. He is also survived by his dear friend Winifred Saltzman. Mert grew up in Portland, ME and graduated from Boston University. During World War II, he served in the Pacific as a paratrooper. As a longtime resident of Wellesley, Mert was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Nehoiden Golf Club. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 4-7PM at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. (Rte. 16) Wellesley Hills. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 19 at 10AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley Hills, follwed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, MA at www.perkins.org
