Eleanor G. Younker (Madden) of Marshfield, passed away July 22, 2012
at the age of 90.
Born in Boston, MA February 7, 1922 subsequently moving to Hudson where she grew up and was educated. She enlisted in the Army in March 1943 where she served as a member of the 403 ASF Army Band playing the French Horn for the balance of the war receiving an Honorable Discharge. During this time she met and married her husband Monroe I. Younker of Hancock MD at Stark General Hospital in Charleston SC on Sept 02, 1945 while both were serving in the Army. After living in Newton, they retired to Marshfield making their Kent Park summer home a permanent residence.
Her hobbies were outside work and helping her neighbors. Her love of music gave her great comfort throughout her life. She kept contact with many of her Army Band members with whom she formed lifelong friendships. She remained active with several Veterans groups and was very proud of her service.
She was the loving mother of Paul M. (Joan) of Marshfield; Gary D. (Marie) of Waltham; Janet M. Keefe of Waltham. Dear grandmother of Robert, Chad and Kayla. She was pre-deceased
by her husband Monroe, her brother Harry V. Madden Jr of Jamaica Plain, a granddaughter Tina and son-in law Edward Keefe. Also survived by her sister–in law Mary Madden of Jamaica Plain, nephews and nieces.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, July 26 from4-8PM at the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St. West Newton. Family and friends will gather in the funeral home, Friday morning from9:30-10:30AM, followed by a graveside service at Mt. Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect St. Waltham, MA at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of one’s choice.
