Obituary for Charlene H. Dunn (Phippen)

Charlene H. Phippen Dunn was born in Newton, MA on April 1, 1935 to the late Gertrude M. Dennis Scrivner and Clarence Oliver Phippen, Sr.

She was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1953. She also attended Worcester State University.

She retired from the United States Post Office after years of devoted service.

Charlene enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting and was a member of various quilting guilds. She loved exploring craft shows, flea markets and garage sales.

During her time living in Florida, she volunteered with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of several quilting groups.

She was a life long member of the Myrtle Baptist Church in West Newton, the South Middlesex Branch NAACP and the Suburbanette’s Women’s Club.

Charlene was married for 39 years to the late John “Jack” Dunn, whom she lost on August 4th. She leaves her loving daughter, Regina Temple of Framingham, MA, granddaughters, Omolayo Musa, (Cassandra) of Boston, MA and Aziza Temple of Boston, MA and grandson, Omar Musa of Boston, MA, two sisters, Alda Glover of Los Angeles, CA and Cheryl Phippen Lombre (Regino) of Suffolk, VA, one brother, Clarence Oliver Phippen, Jr. of Fryeburg, ME, brothers-in-law, Paul Dunn (Barbara) of Brighton, MA and Robert Dunn of Framingham, MA, niece Francesca Fontes McIver (James) of Annapolis, MD, nephew, Eric Phippen of Manchester, CT and grandnephews, Christian and Jackson McIver of Annapolis, MD and a host of cousins, Godchildren and lifelong and new friends.

She was a woman of strong beliefs, multiple talents and great intelligence. If she loved you, you could do no wrong. Being loyal to her loved ones was extremely important to her.

We will miss her presence, love, guidance and all the other wonderful things that made her unique.

Visitation will be on Thursday, 9/28 from 6-7 PM followed by services 7-9 PM at the Myrtle Baptist Church, 21 Curve Street, West Newton, MA.

Burial on Friday, 9/29 at 10:15 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
