McHugh, Paul G., 83, of Newton, died Saturday morning at home. He was born in Cambridge in 1933, the son of Gerard and Catherine McHugh. He grew up in Winthrop. He obtained his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi. He served in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland as a First Lieutenant. He worked for 35 years for MIT Lincoln Laboratory on computing and radar systems, making a significant contribution to the future development of these technologies, and was an outstanding colleague and mentor. His favorite things were traveling with his wife, being with his children and grandchildren, family vacations and taking care of his parents, aunts and uncles, sisters, wife, children and grandchildren. He loved sailing, the beach and tennis. Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Emily Ann McHugh, his daughter Kathleen Mirani and her husband Robert of Lexington, his sons Kevin and his wife Patricia of Duxbury and Gerard of Georgia, his grandchildren Katherine, Kristin, Daniel, Leah, Sophie Rae, Thomas and Mitchell, and his sister Denise Price and her husband William of Wellesley and his brother Stephen McHugh of Waltham. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., (Rte. 16), West Newton, Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bernard's Church, West Newton at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Tuesday evening from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
