Obituary for Paul Chagnon

Chagnon, Paul, Assistant Chief, Newton Fire Department, 60, of Medway, formerly of Newton, March 25, 2016. Beloved husband of Anne (Salvucci) Chagnon. Devoted father of Jennifer Mest of Buford, GA and her husband Kevin, Michael Chagnon of Medway and his wife Alaina, Christine McCarthy of Medway and her husband Colin. Adored Papa to seven grandchildren. Dear son of Clare and the late John J. Chagnon and son-in-law of Lorraine and the late Anthony J. Salvucci of West Newton. Brother of Robert Chagnon, Maryellen Castro, and Gail Moylan, all of West Newton, and John J. Chagnon, Jr. of West Bridgewater, Jean Terrasi of Natick, and Carol Paupst of Lamar, MS. Paul served on the Newton Fire Department for 30 years and was honored with the Henry L. Bixby award for his part in the rescue of a distraught man from a communications tower. He served in the U. S. Army from 1974-1977 and received the Army Commendation Medal for his part in saving the life of a fallen soldier. He was an avid outdoorsman who cherished his family above all else. He was loyal, honest to a fault, and could sneak in a one-liner like no other. Funeral from the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St. (Rte.16), West Newton, Thursday, March 31, at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bernard's Church, West Newton at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Wednesday evening from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Paul's memory to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O.
