Dillon, Bernice Y., 89, transitioned to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's/dementia and other intervening medical complications. She was born on July 1, 1926 in Newton, MA to Priscilla (Holmes) Dillon Bland and Harry Dillon. Bernice graduated from Newton High School in 1945 and matriculated at Morgan State College in Baltimore, MD before returning home to attend nursing school. She worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, MA for 42 years. Bernice is survived by her granddaughter and caregiver Christine Dillon of West Newton and was predeceased by her daughter Leslie L. Dillon. Wake and funeral services will held at The Historic Myrtle Baptist Church located at 21 Curve Street West Newton on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 5:00pm, with service starting at 6:00 PM. Interment will follow on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 9:30am at Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Bernice Y. Dillon to The Myrtle Baptist Church Scholarship Fund and The Caregivers and Family Support Ministry.
