The Honorable Robert V. Greco of Wellesley, 70, former First Justice of the Framingham District Court, passed suddenly on May 22, 2015. Judge Greco was born in Portsmouth, NH to the late Guy Greco and the late Madeline (Scaramella) Greco and grew up in Boston, where he became a lifelong Red Sox fan. A man who valued education, he was a proud graduate of Boston Latin School (1962), Princeton University (B.A., 1966), and Boston College Law School (J.D., 1969). Judge Greco devoted his career to public service. Prior to his judicial appointment, he served as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer (1969-70); Public Defender at the Massachusetts Defenders Committee, Appeals Division (1971-73); Assistant Attorney General at the Criminal Division of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office under Robert H. Quinn and Francis X. Bellotti (1973-80); and Executive Director and General Counsel of the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission (1980-84). Judge Greco was appointed to the Framingham District Court by Governor Michael S. Dukakis in 1985 and served on the bench for nearly 30 years, until his retirement in June 2014. While a judge, he served additionally as an Associate Justice of the District Court Appellate Division, Northern District and Chairperson of the Committee on Judicial Ethics. He also taught as an adjunct faculty member at New England School of Law (1975-2004) and Boston University School of Law (2005); was a Trustee of the Boston Latin School Association (1996-2002); and most recently, upon his retirement, became a Board member of MetroWest Mediation Services. Judge Greco was a thoughtful and selfless man, recognized by all who knew him for his integrity, fairness, and subtle humor. He leaves his adoring wife of 39 years, Marjorie (Cavicchio) Greco; cherished son David Greco of Somerville; beloved daughter Carolyn Greco of Washington, DC; and loving brother Dr. Richard Greco and his wife, Ruth, of Rumford, RI. A funeral Mass honoring Judge Greco’s life will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd., Wellesley at 10 AM, Saturday, May 30 with a reception immediately following. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will take place from 4-8 PM, Friday, May 29 at Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St., Wellesley.
