Obituary for Priscilla Davis Barnard (Davis)

Barnard, Priscilla (Davis) Hoye of Westwood MA died peacefully at home on March 22, 2015. She was ninety-six years old. Priscilla is survived by her children, Dr. Diane Campbell of Hawaii and Robert W. Hoye (Michele) of Dover MA; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Campbell (Deven), Alexander and Morgan Hoye; a stepson, Frederick Barnard III (Stephanie) of Palm City FL; four step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. Her first husband, Robert G. Hoye, died in 1981, and her second husband, Frederick Barnard, died in 2004. Priscilla was born on October 30, 1918 in Waltham MA to George and Edith (Totten) Davis. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1939 as a Durant Scholar, Wellesley’s highest academic honor, and later served as president of the Boston Wellesley College Club. For years, Priscilla opened her home to international students studying at Wellesley and she was active in the Wellesley Students’ Aid Society. Priscilla was president of the Visiting Nurse Association in Waltham, president of the New England Baptist Hospital League and president of the Wellesley Friendly Aid Association. In addition to her community service, Priscilla was an accomplished bridge player well into her nineties. She was a member of the Weston Golf Club for more than fifty years where she enjoyed golf and bowling. Priscilla loved to travel and documented her experiences with precision and wit. Her travel journals extend over forty years and explore cities, countries and continents. Her family and friends remember her as elegant, brilliantly intellectual and gracious to all. Calling hours will be Friday, March 27 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Burke and Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street, (Rte 16) in West Newton MA. A memorial service and celebration of Priscilla’s life is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington Street, Wellesley MA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wellesley Students’ Aid Society, 106 Central Street, Wellesley MA 02481 or to the Lupus Foundation of America, Memorial Donations.
