Obituary for Thomas Egan

Thomas (Tom) Egan passed away unexpectedly on March 17th at his home in the South End. Thomas was a beloved son, brother, friend and uncle with a quick and loving smile and a passionate chef who loved cooking for his family and friends. He also enjoyed travelling and recently became an importer and reseller of handcrafted furniture and artwork from his beloved home away from home, Thailand.


Thomas was born in Newton, MA on December 3, 1961. He attended Newton public schools and graduated from Newton North High School. Thomas also attended Johnson and Wales College of Culinary Arts in Providence. For the past 17 years, he was employed by the Sigma Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon at MIT as the fraternity’s private chef. Thomas took great pride in his work at the fraternity and over the years was a Big Brother, friend, and mentor to many of the brothers. Prior to cooking for the fraternity, Thomas was an accomplished chef at several Boston restaurants as well as at his own restaurant on Mass Ave in Boston.


Thomas is the son of Irene F. (Nolan) Egan of Waltham and the late Thomas H.P. Egan. He is survived by his sister Janet of North Andover, brother Robert and his wife Szilvia of Dubai, UAE, brother Kevin of Groton, MA, and brother Donald and his spouse Michael Kobos of Salisbury, MA and was predeceased by his brother William Egan of Woburn. Thomas was the life partner of the late Steven Lott. He is also survived by his nieces Elizabeth Egan of Boston, Andrea Egan of New York City and Lillian and Alexandra Egan of Dubai.


Visitation hours will be on Tuesday March 20th from 4-8pm at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeal Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley Hills. Remembrances will be shared at 7:00pm.
